Join me in my efforts to support Ovarian Cancer Research Fund!

For the second year, I have partnered with Turn the Towns Teal to raise awareness in my community of the early symptoms of ovarian cancer. In addition, this year I am working harder to do my part in raising money to help support Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

With Ovarian Cancer, early detection leads to improved prognosis and a greater chance for disease-free living. Unfortunately, detecting it early is not always easy. Ovarian cancer has such a high mortality rate because most women are diagnosed at a late stage of the disease. I am reminded EVERY DAY how lucky I am. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in February of 2012 at the age of 33 (that is not the lucky part;). My disease was confined to the ovaries and I was diagnosed at stage 1 (the lucky part!). After surgery and 6 rounds of chemotherapy, I have been without evidence of disease since August 2012.

If you are interested in reading more about my experience since my diagnosis, please visit my blog at http://whatjusthappenedheredotcom.wordpress.com/

I feel strongly that I have a story to share. A story to make people stop and think "that could have been me!". Because it could. It really can happen to anyone. I didn't have a history of gynecological problems. I had 2 easy pregnancies without any suspicious complications. And then BAM! I was diagnosed when my youngest was just 18 months old. I was exercising and working hard to lose the baby weight I'd gained and was acutely aware of how my body looked. Had I not been so aware and in tune with my body, I don't believe I would have noticed the tumor and bloating nearly as soon and my prognosis could be very different. I believe that my awareness saved my life. And now I want to help other women protect and advocate for themselves.

My goal is to educate women on the early (and easy to overlook) symptoms of ovarian cancer and to do what I can to help provide funds to researchers working to find a screening tool for early detection. And hopefully a cure! OCRF uses their donations to do those very things!

Please consider donating to OCRF and sharing this page with others so that we can reach as many women as possible!
Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
